BRINGING MODERN EDUCATION TO WESTERN MARYLAND

WHERE I COME FROM

I grew up in Cumberland, attended public schools, and graduated from ACM in 1975 with a degree in Medical Laboratory Technology. In 1984, I graduated from Frostburg State University with a degree in English. I combined these areas of study by obtaining my Master of Science in Public Health from the University of Colorado in 1991. I have been connected to Mountain Maryland through family and friends over the decades and moved back to Cumberland in 2018 with a desire to give back to the community that gave me such a strong educational foundation.

A THRIVING CAREER

Over 30 years I progressed from a clinical lab technician at Sacred Heart Hospital to research associate at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center to public health consultant/study director at Westat, Inc. in Rockville, MD. During my career, I worked with multidisciplinary teams to make a difference in clinical care and scientific discovery - both in the US and internationally. My Allegany County public education gave me an amazing foundation on which to build a productive and fulfilling career. I now yearn to make an impact in my home community by joining the Board of Education. My goal is to improve public education in Allegany County by a return to civil conversation and respect, limiting the bullying that leads to depression and loss, and finding ways to incorporate input from teachers, parents, and the community. Our leaders should be role models to inspire students to become their best selves. As a Board Member, I will fight to make our students' lives the best, safest, and most successful they can be.
